New Hampshire Governor John Lynch says he'll sign a gay marriage bill if it's altered

New Hampshire Governor John Lynch has at last spoken about a gay marriage bill lawmakers passed: He wants compromise.

The 'Associated Press' is reporting that Lynch will sign the bill if it is altered to strengthen protections for churches opposed to gay marriage.

The bill is on its way to the governor's desk but remains in the Legislature.

The bill passed by lawmakers allows churches the discretion to conduct religious marriages for gay and lesbian couples. Lynch, however, said Thursday he would like to see clearer language on the issue.

Gay marriage is legal in four New England states, where a majority of voters approve of gay marriage. Iowa legalized gay marriage last month.
